Pool servicing in Hunters Hill

Andy in a respirator standing in a drained pool, set up for an acid wash

Acid washing, equipment installation and pressure testing in Hunters Hill. A lot of the pools here are old enough that restoring the surface beats replacing it. From $1,100.

Acid washing is the single most common job Andy does in Hunters Hill, with equipment replacement close behind. A lot of the pools on the peninsula have been in the ground a long time, and a concrete, pebblecrete or marbelite surface that has done twenty or thirty years develops staining that no amount of brushing or chemistry will lift. Draining, acid-washing and refilling takes the finish back close to new for a fraction of what resurfacing costs.

The suburb sits between the Lane Cove and Parramatta Rivers and is often described as Australia's oldest garden suburb, with sandstone housing from the 1850s onward and parts of it inside heritage conservation areas under Hunters Hill Council. Repairs, equipment replacement and acid washing are all normal maintenance and are not restricted. Closer to the water there is a second factor, in that salt in the air is harder on exposed metal fittings than it is a few streets inland.

★★★★★

I recently engaged Aqua Andy to help diagnose and improve my pool system, and I couldn’t be happier with the service provided. Andy took the time to thoroughly assess the system, clearly explain the issues, and recommend practical solutions to improve both performance and efficiency. His knowledge of pool equipment and water management was impressive, and he was always happy to answer questions and explain things in a way that was easy to understand. What really stood out was his honesty and professionalism. Rather than trying to sell unnecessary products or services, Andy focused on finding the best solution for my pool and budget. He was reliable, punctual, and communicated clearly throughout the process. My pool is now running better than it has in years, and I have a much better understanding of how to keep it operating efficiently. I would highly recommend Aqua Andy to anyone looking for expert pool advice, maintenance, troubleshooting or system upgrades. Excellent service from start to finish.

Pool questions from Hunters Hill

Are there restrictions on pool work in a heritage conservation area?
Servicing, repairs, equipment replacement and acid washing are normal maintenance and are not restricted. Anything structural, or anything that changes what is visible from the street, can be a different matter in a conservation area, so it is worth a call to Hunters Hill Council before committing to that kind of work.
Can a thirty year old pebblecrete pool be brought back?
Usually, and for far less than people expect. An acid wash strips the stained top layer off the existing surface and restores the finish, at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing. What decides it is the condition of the surface underneath, which Andy assesses before quoting rather than after.
Is it worth repairing old pool equipment or replacing it?
It depends entirely on the unit. Parts for equipment from the 1980s and 1990s are often no longer made, which turns a repair into a hunt and a wait, and at that point replacement usually makes more sense. Andy will tell you which situation you are in rather than defaulting to the sale.
