Older plant benefits most from the six months off. Chemistry down, cover on, equipment shut down properly rather than just switched off, then brought back up in October. It is also the natural point to find out what is not going to survive another season.

On a pool that runs several hours a day, usually yes, and the saving is in power rather than in performance. Andy will give you the numbers for your pool and your run time rather than a general claim, including the case for leaving it alone.
